SIPA Education group - Invitation to workshop / Monday 24th, 9:50 @501B IAB

Hi education group members!

How are the midterms / projects going? I hope everything is going well!

We would like to invite you to a short workshop for planning our activities and projects for this term.
When: Monday 24th, 9:50 - 10:50
Where: 501B IAB

Last meeting we created several teams, and we would like to invite you to use this space to meet with your team and define your activities / projects. If you weren't able to attend last meeting, you can join this workshop, join a team and propose your ideas! The objective of the workshop is to define one, two or three (or more) initiatives for each team. The teams are: Networking, Learning, Communications, Future of the Group, Research, In the field.

We know these are days with a lot of things to do, but still it seems it is a good idea to meet: 1) it is important to define activities and projects for getting funding and starting some of them this term 2) it is always relaxing to discuss about education ideas/projects with cool/interesting people like us :)

The next step, after the workshop, will be a meeting with enough time and food (hopefully) for presenting the initiatives created by the teams in the workshop and for agreeing the group priorities/focuses. It will be also the opportunity for getting to know each other a little more!

Best,
P.

Doodle Poll "UNSPWG Education Task Force Meeting #2"

Hello all,

Thank you to those of you who were able to join us on Monday! It was great to meet everyone in person, and we have a phenomenal group of students here.

For our next meeting, please visit the doodle poll below to indicate what time works for you. We'll set a time based on responses this Friday and get the official time and location out in short order.
For meeting #2, we'll be checking in with Networking, Learning, In-Field, Research, and Communications/Website teams about game plans moving forward. If you haven't joined a team yet, be sure to do so at http://bit.ly/sipaed.

Happy midterms, friends, and I can't wait to keep things moving on the other side.

Cheers,

SIPA Education Working Group

Hi All, Thank you for expressing interest in being a part of an Education Working Group at SIPA! A few of quick items:
  1. Thanks to Pablo, we are building out a Google spreadsheet sharing a bit of information about ourselves-- I included some of the information that you shared with me, but please add anything you would like so we can get an idea of the breadth of experience we bring to the table as a group http://bit.ly/sipaed
  2. Mark your calendars for 1pm on Monday, October 10th for an initial planning meeting. MDP Program Assistant Extraordinaire Corey Pargee is working on a room reservation- I'll let you know when we get a location secured.
  3. Rochester's David Hursh has been invited by Columbia University to work in the Earth Institute as a visiting research scholar, where he will focus on education in the Millennium Villages during the 2011-12 academic year. He is currently developing curriculum for a course on education for sustainable development to be taught at SIPA in the spring semester, and has offered to meet with us at Brad's Cafe (near Journalism) TODAY Tuesday, October 4th at 5pm to talk through curriculum ideas. Pretty excited about being able to offer this kind of input! Apologies for the last-minute notice, but if you are interested check out more about David at http://thepointrochester.org/initiative-profiles/individuals/david-hursh-phd/
Please feel free to pass this on to other interested students as well!
Cheers,
Debi
