School Supply Drive

In the wake of Sandy, 57 public schools in New York City have been indefinitely relocated to other public schools that were already fully occupied.  Many of these schools are now facing severe resource constraints as most of their student and teaching materials were destroyed.  SIPA Education Collaborative has partnered with one such elementary school on Coney Island and we will be holding a donation drive at SIPA this week to collect materials needed by the school.  Below is the school principal's description of how the storm has impacted their school.

"PS 329 is located one block from Coney Island Beach and we lost almost everything on our first floor. The entire first floor was submerged under about 4Ft of water. We lost student furniture, student materials, computers, teacher resources and teacher furniture in all 14 classrooms and offices housed on our first floor. Our gym, danceroom and auditorium facilities were destroyed and must be repaired structurally."
- PS 329 principal

The principal reports that they are in need of teacher resources because the school they have relocated to cannot provide supplies for them.  Currently the teachers are having to purchase all of their own resources.

There are three ways to donate:

Online:
1) Purchase a book for the school on the Amazon wish list registry here: http://bit.ly/PS329drive

At the Education Collaborative table International Affairs Building, 4th floor Thursday Nov. 15th to Wednesday Nov. 21st from 11am to 2pm:
2) Donate a few dollars and the Ed Collaborative will use the donations to purchase needed items
